About Velvet Home and Living
Velvet Home and Living brings style, comfort, and timeless pieces into every home
Our Story
At Velvet Home and Living beautiful things are an obsession, so when we sold our three Garden Route Décor shops to a multi-national retailer in 2002, we couldn’t wait – we absolutely had to open a new shop. We’ve been trading in Home Furniture and décor for almost 30 years and have a passion for the business which borders on craziness!
Sourcing Unique, Timeless Pieces for Your Home
When Velvet Home & Living was born 20 years ago, the intention was to create a luxury brand. Velvet fabric has for centuries been associated with high end furniture pieces, so what better way to describe a luxury furniture brand than with the name “Velvet”.
Says Brendan, co-owner and buyer, “Talk about a cool job! I travel all over the world to source furniture and special pieces and in the process, I meet smiling, remarkable craftsmen who go out of their way to supply us with our vision. I always look for quality and comfort because in today’s world our homes are our havens. There’s often so much newness and perfection in a home that I absolutely love elements that feel as if they have been there for some time.
One of the most dogged misconceptions about interior decor is that a home’s style has to select a theme: be it Contemporary, Antique, Modern, Vintage, Industrial, Farmhouse, etc. The most livable and happy rooms can’t be established by a decade or design style. Instead, they have a skilful mix of old and new pieces to create the impression of having been collected over time, a secret to ensure that a room won’t look dated in a year or 10 and that these pieces will stand the test of time.
We want shopping with us to be a relaxed and enjoyable experience. The Velvet team is focused on making you feel welcome and at home. We love the journey we travel with our cherished customers who inspire and motivate us to constantly “up our game”. Ready to find your next piece?
